Have you ever walked in trance at 6:00 a.m. with your heart wide open? I have. I’m sure passersby thought we were zombies – or that we drank some kind of spiked Kool-Aid. But I didn’t care. And I’d do it again in a heartbeat — pun intended.
My husband Dan and I recently returned from an Advanced Follow-Up Retreat with Dr. Joe Dispenza, and to say it was transformational would be an understatement. For five days, we immersed ourselves in long meditations, big insights, walking in trance (truly), and even moments of profound healing.
Why We Signed Up
Because thoughts become things! And after two heart attacks, I realized: I didn’t like some of the “things” that had shown up in my life.
This retreat was about consciously creating something different—health, joy, peace, and possibility. We were retraining our minds and hearts to connect to the field of infinite potential (the Quantum as Dr Joe says, or as I prefer to call it—God).
✨ I choose vibrant health.
✨ I choose love.
✨ I choose to help others recover mentally and emotionally after heart trauma.
Afterall, I want my experience to matter – not just to me – but to someone else who is grappling with what just happened to them.
A Day in the Life of a Participant
Each morning began with a walking meditation. To the outside world, we might’ve looked like headphone-wearing zombies. But inwardly, we were activating deep presence, heart-brain coherence, and elevated emotion.
Then came the teachings—so much wisdom from Dr. Joe—followed by seated meditations that deepened our connection with the Divine. Each teaching session was kicked off by dancing to some rockin’ good music! Yep – that’s right. Afterall we were elevating our state. We had breaks for meals, recharging ourselves, and communing with very interesting people from all over the world.
Our days ended around 9:30 p.m.—sometimes after another walking meditation. We were physically tired and spiritually full.
My Experience as a Healee
I had the incredible privilege of being chosen as a healee—someone who receives healing energy from a group of six others. There were about 1600 people at this event and over 200 people were chosen to be healees. This was a huge welcome surprise to me.
Not sure if you’ve ever felt energy—tingles, pulsing, heat—it’s different for everyone. For me, it was strong.
Before each session, I set a clear intention:
💫 May my healers be experienced and heart-connected
💫 May I trust, allow and receive
💫 May this healing be for my highest and best good
And then—I surrendered. I allowed myself to feel worthy. And the energy flowed.
✨ Since then? Real, tangible shifts.

The second night of the retreat, I forgot to take medication for long-haul COVID symptoms. But the symptoms didn’t show up. I forgot again the next night – afterall we had a very full agenda. And still, the symptoms didn’t show up. I stopped taking the medication since then and yet those symptoms haven’t shown up.
-
I’m sleeping longer and deeper. My Fitbit is reporting more REM and deep sleep than before the retreat.
-
Most of all, I feel in love with life. In awe. So grateful for all I have.
The real challenge is maintaining this feeling in daily life. It won’t be perfect, but I’m meditating at least once/day holding my vision for this upgraded version of me.
What I’m Bringing Home
Lying on the ballroom floor during the healing sessions as a recipient, I was blessed with a powerful experience. I’m the creator of my beautiful life.
There is a time for giving, but sometimes it’s more difficult to be the receivier. This time, I learned to surrender and receive. As a result, I was given much. And talking with some of my healers afterwards, they were blessed by the healing sessions too – in the unique ways that they needed.
I’m choosing joy. I’m choosing health. I’m choosing to help others do the same.
Easing Re-Entry
When the retreat ended, we stayed one extra night at the hotel. We didn’t want to jolt back into “real life.”
We chose to drive to and from the retreat. Our plan was to visit some beautiful Virginia state parks on the drive back to Chicago and let the shifts we knew we would experience settle. But nature had a different idea—it didn’t just rain, it poured! So, we just drove.
No music. No podcasts. Just conversations. Silences. Integration.
We eventually stopped in Yellow Springs, OH, and the next morning—sunshine! We wandered a local state park, soaked in the greenery, watched the birds, explored charming shops, and just breathed.
When we got home… we didn’t tell anyone. Not right away. We wanted to preserve our cocoon just a little longer.
